Governors meet as a full Local Management Board each half term. The Local Management Board has a responsibility for managing the school effectively. Governors meet on many occasions during the school year and are particularly responsible for helping to decide on the school’s curriculum, to help with the appointment of staff, to assist in setting standards of behaviour, to oversee the spending of the school budget and to support and challenge the Headteacher and staff.

All governors have full voting rights. Mrs Toward has voting rights as Headteacher. Governors can be contacted through the school office. There is a box in the school entrance for any suggestions or questions. Parents are invited to meet with governors termly to discuss specific issues.

Miss Smith, Miss Garvey and Mrs Toward are Directors of the Nicholas Postgate Academy Trust Board. Mrs Toward is a member of the Standards Committee.

Foundation Governors are appointed by the Bishop of Middlesbrough.

Miss Smith is a practising Catholic and was a pupil at both St Joseph's and Sacred Heart many moons ago. She then went on to college to study business. She works full time as an office manager for Stonehouse Bakery and is also club secretary for Loftus Cricket & Athletic Club.  Miss Smith has a nephew and niece at St. Joseph’s.No relevant business interest.

Mrs C Garvey
Foundation Governor Vice Chair
 Mrs Garvey is a retired head teacher, bringing a wealth of local educational expertise to our Local Management Board. She is a part-time Link Tutor for Leeds Trinity University, observing student teachers during their training in local primary schools. Her outside interests are playing golf, watercolour painting and supporting Middlesbrough FC. No relevant business interest.

Mrs E Henry
1/9/17- 31/8/21
 Mrs Henry is a recently retired Head teacher. She was Head at St Benedict's in Redcar and at Teesville Primary. She taught at St Alban's and at St Dominic's in Redcar. She has a wealth of educational experience which she brings to our Local Management Board.

Miss L Theaker
Miss Theaker has a daughter who attends the school. She is a practising catholic and is also an ex pupil of the school. She is a paediatric (children's) nurse at James Cook Hospital, a profession she has worked in for over 17 years. Her role is to care for children who are having surgery and also safeguard children in her care. No relevant business interest.

Mrs J Verrill

Mrs Verrill is a practising Catholic, who is an ex pupil of  St. Joseph's and Sacred Heart. She currently has two children who attend St Joseph's. Jane works for the NHS as a Speech and Language Therapy Assistant.No relevant business interest.

Fr S. Broughton
9/12/14 – 8/12/18
 Fr. Simon Broughton, is the Parish Priest of Saints Joseph and Cuthbert, Loftus but also looks after two other parishes, Our Lady Star of the Sea in Staithes and Saint Anthony in Brotton. Fr Simon is a regular visitor to our school and encourages the children and staff in discovering their faith. He has served as a governor for over two years at our primary school. Fr. Simon lives at the presbytery in Staithes.

Mrs C Hobden
Mrs Hobden is a practising catholic, who has two children, William in Y4 at St. Josephs and Holly (2) who will shortly be coming to FS in 2017. Mrs Hobden has been a primary school teacher in the area for 6 years now specialising in Key Stage 1.

Mrs A Toward
Staff Headteacher
Alison Toward has been a primary school teacher for over thirty years. Throughout her career she has taught in a number of Catholic schools in the Middlesbrough Diocese. She started her teaching career at Christ the King before moving to St Joseph’s in 1990. She then moved to St. Bede’s in Marske before returning to St. Joseph’s in 2008. She has experience across the key stages. She is a Director of the Nicholas Postgate Academy Trust. No relevant business interest.

Mrs L Lawson

Lesley Lawson is Deputy Headteacher, Y6 teacher, SENDCO, English subject leader and Pupil Premium Champion. She began her teaching career at Whinney Banks Junior School in Acklam, before moving to St Bedes in 2000 and then to St Joseph’s in 2009. She has three daughters, the youngest of which moved to St Joseph’s with her before she moved on to Sacred Heart. She is a passionate teacher who sees her class as additional members of her family. No relevant business interest.

Mrs M O’Hara

Shelley O’Hara has worked at St Joseph's for the past 32 years. Being on the staff gives her an insight into what is happening in and around school and helps her to contribute in helping to move the school forward. Her children and grandchildren have attended St Joseph's and it’s great for her to see past pupils returning with their own children. No relevant business interest.
